There are no fixed trends as described above here, folks, just a divided nation that gridlocked itself into an inability to problem solve. Our founders devised a government that would be forced to negotiate and compromise to get things done. Many European countries have succeeded at this, why can’t we? But first, our two party system, which was never the intention of the Constitution, needs to be abolished as both parties are proven incurable failures. I had become an independent but was the victim of voter suppression during primaries, which in many states are more important than the general election but ban independents. So I reluctantly returned to the Democrats so I would have Constitutional rights to vote again. Disgusting, isn’t it?
I don’t think “leftist” means what you think it means. They are liberals. They are laissez-faire when it comes to social issues. But they don’t want icky poors touching them either. I’m a musician, so I won’t speak for the other disciplines. When I was starting out, I assumed everyone in the business was a pot-smoking liberal hippie like I was.* It didn’t take long to discover this is not the case at all. Brief personal anecdote: Years ago, I was hanging around at a drummer’s house after a rehearsal and I noticed a row of videotapes on his bookshelf labeled “Rush.” I mentioned that I liked Rush too, and I had all their records. I asked him what the videos were, and he replied, “It’s not the band, Rush, it’s all of the Rush Limbaugh tv shows.” “Because I like them,” he replied, then subjected me to a long political diatribe, echoing the Rush Limbaugh philosophy.
To be fair, Hollywood has gotten better in this regard—but they have a horrible history. For those of you who don’t know, this picture is is an example of Black face. Back in the day, they would put black makeup on White actors instead of actually hiring Blacks. While discrimination exists in the workplace, Hollywood has always been much worse. Nowadays you find Blacks in all professions and occupying high positions of leadership. Some minorities are even over represented in certain well-paying fields. Because probably they are intelligent enough to realise that a Society that is poisoned by the Right is not one they wish to live in, however much their wealth may protect them from the depredations visited upon ordinary people by the Right. It has nothing to do with wealth. You can just as easily ask “Why are so many famous/rich people right-leaning conservative”? Or write in poor or middle class people instead of rich or famous people.
